The
International Yoga Sports
Federation ™ was
founded in 1989 in Montevideo,
Uruguay.
At the election
Yoga Federation of India take the
presidenship of organization and
Yoga Assocation of Uruguay take
the vicepresidency with the Yoga
Sports Federation of Italy. The
first president was MS Vishwanath
disciple and nephew of Sri K.
Pattabhi Jois and former
vicepresident of Yoga Federation
of India. The president of honour
was Sri Swami Gitananda of
Pondicherry, former Paton of Yoga
Federation of India. The
vicepresidents. Dharmachari
Maitreyananda (Yogacharya Fernando
Estevez-Griego) and Pietro Bonvini
from Italy. In 1994 Yoga
Federation of Argentina take the
presidenship with Dharmachari
Maitreyananda (Yogacharya Fernando
Estevez-Griego) as new president
from 1994 to 1999. In 2000 Gopal
Ji president of Yoga Confederation
of India become president from
2000 to 2009. In 2010 the Yoga
Federation of Argentina take the
presidenship and Yogacharini
Eugenia Salas (Mataji Lakshmi
Devi) become president in 2010 and
again in 2014. The patronship is
for Yoga Federation of India: KC
Sharma. The Grand Master of Yoga
Eugenia Salas Hovorka (Mataji
Lakshmi Devi) was 26 time world
yoga champion in many disciplines
of yoga sports and one of the best
coaches and master of yoga sports
in the world

Yoga
Competition history
Yoga competition
is part of India's rich history. But
Yoga Competitions is not Asanas
Competition. It is said
that the yoga asana (posture)
practice originated over 5,000
years ago. Yoga Competitions have
been taking place for 2,000 years
now, albeit in a more
philosophical and spiritual form
with anothers yoga angas. Today,
it is estimated that the yoga
competition in its current form
began about 200 years ago. At
least one yoga competition takes
place daily in India, Europe and
America.
And world or
international yoga competitions in
its current from began about 30
years ago with the father of World
Yoga Championships and
International Yoga Sports
Movement: Dharmachari
Maitreyananda (Yogacharya Fernando
Estevez-Griego) who is the father
and founder of World Yoga Cup and
World Yoga Champinship. He is the
organizer of 30 world yoga
championship all over the World
and 40 International Yoga
Championship, 50 International
Yoga Asanas Championship, 60
Continental Yoga Championship.
Maitreyananda is the founder and
creator of Artistic Yoga™ and
Rhythmic Yoga the poem and nice
art of yoga.
Dharmacahri Swami
Maitreyananda (Fernando
Estevez-Griego) was the leader
behind World and International
Yoga Sports Championships with the
Yoga Federation of India. He was
the organizer of World Yoga Cup
from 1989 in Uruguay, Spain,
Italy, India, Portugal, U.S.A.
Mexico, Argentina, Brazil,
Colombia, etc.
In this regard
Maitreyananda with Swami Gitananda
former Patron of Yoga Federation
of India and KC Sharma are
considered the founding Fathers of
the International Yoga Sports
Movement. Due to their inspiration
and support, the International
Yoga Sports Federation and
International Federation of Yoga
Sports instituted an annual World
Yoga Championship from 1989 all
over the World
The aim of Yoga
Sports, as the concept of
competing not only in asanas. the
competitions is Pranayama,
Pratihara, Concentration,
Meditation , Santosha, Maitri,
Karuna, Jnana, Spirituality and
all the yoga angas. Was to
introduce young people to the art
and science of yoga through
competitions. At the time, Yoga
Sports was considered an ideal
sport for India as no
infrastructure or costly equipment
was required, and people from all
walks of life could achieve so
much from it.
The First World
Yoga Championship was held in 1989
are in Montevideo and Pondicherry
under the guidance of Dharmachari
Swami Maitreyananda. Today, The
International Council for Yoga
Sport of the International Yoga
Sports Federation ois the
international governing body of
Yoga Sports sand is based in South
America, Asia and Europe

The First World
Yoga Cup and World Yoga
Championship was held in 1989 in
Montevideo, Uruguay under the
guidance of Dharmachari Swami
Maitreyananda. The First
International Yoga Asanas
Championship was held in 1989 in
Pondicherry, India under the
guidance of Swami Gitananda
Maharaj.
In Europe, there
is the annual European Yoga
Championships organized by the
Europena Yoga Asscoation and
European Yoga Alliance and
International Yoga Sports
Federation

American Yoga Championships
organized by the American Yoga
Union and International Yoga
Sports Federation ®. Asia have
annual Asian Yoga Championships
